The Neighborhood: Marlbank Farm
Marlbank Farm is a neighborhood of more than 330 single family homes located off Old York Hampton Highway in Yorktown, Virginia. We are located a few miles from the York River and the Yorktown Battlefield. The community is bordered to the north by Wormley Creek and is characterized by its wooded lots and family-friendly environment.

Established in 1959, the Marlbank Recreation Association (MRA) was created to be the recreation and social organization for the Marlbank Farm neighborhood. The MRA is given authority to enforce the covenants, conditions, and restrictions of the recreational facilities within the neighborhood. The association and its facilities are home to numerous social and athletic events throughout the year including the annual Oyster Roast, the Mudtoads Swim Team, and the annual Turkey Toad Trot. “From MRA website, see link above”

Recreation Facilities
Playground & Basketball Court

Thanks to previous generations of Marlbank Farm community members and volunteers, a playground was built for the neighborhood children to enjoy. Swings, a play set, and monkey bars are available to all community members. A half-court basketball hoop is next to the playground area. A Wall is available for wall-ball games, solo tennis practice, etc. As with any structure, the playground is at the mercy of the elements. Any volunteer efforts or donations are always appreciated towards making it a clean and safe play area.

Tennis Courts

The two tennis courts that are part of the Marlbank Farm neighborhood are often in use. There courts are lighted, extending the opportunities for play into the cooler summer evenings. If you are interested in finding a playing partner within the neighborhood please contact the MRA board and we will steer you to the best source for all things Tennis.

During the 2 holiday weekends (Memorial Day and Labor Day) there is often a neighborhood tennis tournament. This is very friendly and casual in nature and anyone interested is invited to participate. Be on the lookout for sign-up notices by email or posted on the entry to the neighborhood.

Community Dock

The Marlbank Farm neighborhood has been blessed with property set aside for a community dock. A dock was constructed many years ago and enjoyed much use from the community. The dock has succumbed to age and is in the process of being repaired. We have Virginia Marine Resource Commission approval to rebuild the structure and hope to do so in the 2014 calendar year.

Pool
The Marlbank Farm pool is the crown jewel of the neighborhood. First built over 50 years ago (and rumored to have been used for weightlessness training by NASA astronauts) it had a major renovation in 2003 and a “touch-up” in the spring of 2013. It is home to the Marlbank Mudtoads, a competitive swim team in the Greater Peninsula Swimming Association (GPSA).

The pool is staffed by qualified lifeguards whenever swimming is open to the public, typically Memorial Day through Labor Day. Residents make use of the pool throughout the day: Early swim (from 6-7 am) for those who want to start their day with a little exercise, Mudtoads swim team practice from 8-11 am, and open swim from 11 am – 9 pm (unless there is a swim meet or other special event – check the calendar to make sure).

The Marlbank Farm Pool is a great location to host a TGIF or other adult social, entertain children at a birthday party, get swim lessons for your children, or just enjoy a relaxing day by the water. There is always a lap lane open for anyone wishing to get a mid-day workout.

The pool is only open to MRA members and their guests. If you live in the neighborhood you need to be a member of the MRA to enter the pool complex, even as a guest so we encourage everyone in our neighborhood to join the MRA and reap the benefits!
