York County Real Estate

Previously known as Charles River County, York County is part of the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metropolitan area. It is located on the northern portion of the Virginia peninsula, where the York River flows into Chesapeake Bay. The county is home to close to 68,000 residents.

York County is one of the oldest counties in the United States. It was formed way back in the 1630s as one of the eight original counties (then known as shires) of the English Colony of Virginia.  Later on, the area also figured as the final battleground for the country’s independence during the American Revolutionary War.

In addition to its historic relevance and riverside location,  York County is an attractive place to live because of its favorable real estate tax policy. Owning a home here incurs a tax rate of $0.795 per $100 in assessed value.
