Henrico County

Henrico County, like all of Virginia, is rich in history. Henrico residents and events have shaped America’s story and its heritage. Henrico’s history began in 1611, when it became one of the eight original shires of Virginia.Henrico is a conveniently located, thriving, suburban community in the Richmond region that encompasses approximately a third of the metropolitan area and surrounds the city on three sides. With it’s lower taxes and great public schools, it is easily one of the most popular suburbs in Richmond to live.

In 2017, four Henrico County high schools have been ranked among the best in Virginia by U.S. News & World Report. The schools included in the report are Deep Run, Glen Allen, Mills Godwin and Douglas Freeman high schools.

Henrico has approximately 40 parks and recreational facilities within its borders. If you’re looking for a great place to picnic, take a hike or simply relax, Henrico has got you covered. For more information on all of the County’s parks and facilities, click here.

Of note, the new Virginia Capital Trail, is a dedicated, paved pedestrian and bicycle trail that connects the Commonwealth’s past and present capitals of Jamestown and Richmond along the Scenic Route 5 corridor. The Trail traverses approximately 52 miles, four jurisdictions, and more than 400 years of history along one of the first inland routes in North America. Ranging between eight and ten feet wide, the Capital Trail accommodates all modes of non-motorized transportation.
